Deputy President William Ruto has praised Kenyans for upholding peace during and after the last General Election.
Mr Ruto said the move by Kenyans to embrace peace and tolerate each others divergent views demonstrated that the country’s democracy has matured.
He said the promotion of peace among diverse ethnic communities and religious groups in the country show the essence of unity among Kenyans.
The Deputy President, at the same time, urged Christians to remain steadfast and continue to pray for peace and unity of the country.
Mr Ruto expressed gratitude to religious leaders for their prayers, love and for ensuring sustainable peace in the country.
The Deputy President noted that prayers were key to solving problems, saying he was optimistic that God would continue to keep the country together as the Government implements its development agenda.
Speaking at the Faith Evangelists Ministries (FEM) Family Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Sunday, Mr Ruto said the country was peaceful because Kenyans were prayerful.
“As a country we must be united and hope for a better future. It is our prayer that God is going to give us a favour this year. We thank Christians for praying for this country and we don’t take it for granted,” said Mr Ruto.
Mr Ruto who was accompanied by his wife, Rachel, said there was need for Christians to show compassion and engage in constant prayers to help maintain peace.
The Deputy President wished Kenyans God’s blessings and prosperity, urging them to continue to coexist peacefully with one another.
He asked Kenyans to continue supporting the Government as it seeks to implement policies and programmes that will uplift their living standards.
