Deputy President William Ruto has taken a swipe at Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for opposing the establishment of a dry port in Naivasha.

Speaking when he toured Likoni on Friday, Ruto insisted that the government has no plans to relocate the Mombasa port as alleged by Joho. This comes after Joho said he will not support the idea of relocating the port, arguing that it will lead to unemployment among residents. The governor had earlier called for the devolution of the Port of Mombasa, calls that were dismissed by the DP, who argued that the facility was a national asset.“Those claiming that the port is being moved to Naivasha are those who failed in school. What is being created in Naivasha is an economic zone and not a port,” said Ruto, as quoted by the Standard. The Deputy President also said the Jubilee government deserves another term in office because it has initiated different projects in the region."We are constructing the Baricho water project at the cost of Sh15 billion and Mzima II at Sh35 billion. These projects will end water shortage in Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale," said Ruto.He also cited the construction of the duel carriage from Mariakani to Mombasa and expansion of Moi Airport Road.
