Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at opposition leader Raila Odinga over his Friday’s calls to reconstruct the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of their face off for the presidential office in the next sixty days.
DP Ruto said Raila Odinga should get prepared for the elections instead of interfering with the elections body’s activities.
He said: “They (NASA) went to streets to demand removal of the previous commissioners, and we bowed to their demands to have a new IEBC”
He dismissed calls of dismissing the commission.
“It is the same IEBC that presided over the elections of their governors, their senators, their MPs, their Women Reps and their MCAs. If they have a problem with this IEBC, they should ask all their officials elected to resign if they are serious,” Mr Ruto said.
He said the opposition was not “going to have their cake and eat it.”
Mr Ruto further said they were not going to tolerate any initiative by the opposition that would advance interests of a coalition government.
Using Swahili and English interchangeably, the deputy president said: “Wanataka tuzungushane hapa, siku sitini ziishe ndio waanze mambo ya nusu mkate… There is nonusu mkate business“
He said the side was not going to allow a coalition government arrangement.
