The Orange Democratic Movement National Treasurer Timothy Bosire has termed DP William Ruto’s threat to sue letter to activist Boniface Mwangi over a twitter post as ‘uncalled for and backward’.
Ruto, through lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, had written to Mwangi compelling him to apologise and retract his tweet that allegedly demeaned him, a call the Nairobi-based activist through his lawyer Gitobu Imanyara declined.
Posting on the Nyamira ODM Youth League group, Bosire backed Mwangi’s statement saying the DP was a public leader who was subject to robust criticism and scrutiny.
“It’s too backward and uncalled for to summon an ordinary Kenyan who has raised an issue. If at all the issue wasn’t true, then Ruto should not at all responded to him because of the nature of his office,” Bosire said.
“As public servants, we are endowed with the responsibility to act soberly and in a manner that doesn’t seem dictatorial. We should accept criticisms whether positive or negative. The DP got it wrong and should go back to the drawing board,” he added.
The Kitutu Masaba MP said Mwangi’s post did not mention anyone by name and that the DP should not have rushed to using lawyers to summon him.
“I am not a lawyer but Mwangi’s response is quite detailed and with substance. As leaders, some issues are not worth responding to just like the DP did if at all we were not involved in them,” Bosire said.
