Deputy President William Ruto has said that the ramifications of anti-IEBC protests are similar to those of Al-Shabaab attacks.
Ruto said destruction of property and loss of lives during Cord protests were unnecessary.
“What Cord is doing in these street engagements are no different with what Al- Shabaab does. We are destroying the economy of the country with street battles and demonstrations,” the DP said Tuesday during an interview on Citizen TV.
Ruto said Cord was destroying the future of the country and creating fear in the business community.
When asked about the alleged dialogue deal between Cord leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto said there was no agreement between the two leaders to discuss IEBC.
The DP said Odinga and Moses Wetangula were only invited for a luncheon in honour of South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
“It is a tragedy that we have degenerated to this. I am ashamed to say the former Prime Minister (Raila Odinga) is lying, he is a grandfather. It is embarrassing that national leaders are engaging in such things,” Ruto said.
Odinga said after the State House luncheon that President Kenyatta agreed to dialogue calls by Cord to reform IEBC.
Ruto also dismissed allegations that he was behind the murder of businessman and government critic Jacob Juma.
“I am hoping that the killers of Jacob Juma will be brought to book, they will be known. I have nothing to do with the death of Jacob Juma,” he said.
Juma was shot dead on May 5, 2016 as he was driving to his Karen home, at about 9pm.
