Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto will on Saturday play host to the first National Super Alliance (NASA) rally.
There had been reports that the Chama Cha Mashinani party leader would officially join NASA, claims the county boss has since dismissed.
Ruto, a close ally of Baringo Senator and Kanu leader Gideon Moi has been a fierce critic of the Jubilee administration.
On Thursday, NASA chief executive Norman Magaya had told the Star that Ruto was reading from the same script as the opposition and would join NASA.
"Ruto appreciates that Jubilee has completely destroyed the fabric that holds the nation together and he will be affirming his love for the nation by officially joining NASA," he said.
Kanu secretary general Nick Salat on his part said he will attend the NASA rally in which Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford-K) and ANC's Musalia Mudavadi will be present.
Salat said NASA was the best way for Kenya, reiterating that he will be in Bomet even as his party awaits the NEC verdict next week on who to support in the forthcoming general election.
This contradicts reports by Kanu's election board chairman Eddie Kivuvani who said in a paid advertisement on Monday that the former ruling party will field a presidential candidate in the August polls
NASA leaders led by Raila Odinga are trying to bring Gideon Moi and Ruto on board to reap votes from the Rift Valley region.
But the question; will Ruto, Moi joining the opposition divide the Rift Valley vote basket?
