Led by Rift Valley Council of Elders Chairman Gilbert Kabage, the elders said the rift between the two politicians is likely to cost Uhuru the presidency.

Kabage argued that the feud will confuse the President’s supporters, a move he said will hurt his re-election bid.

“The infighting between Kanu leaders and the Deputy President is not healthy. It might hurt Jubilee Party’s efforts to marshal support for the Head of State,” said Kabage.

Kabage urged Ruto and Moi to put aside their 2022 rivalry and focus on wooing supporters to rally behind Uhuru.

“We know the two leaders are harbouring ambitions of running for the presidency in 2022. But they should shelf the ambitions for now and focus on drumming support for President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Kabage, as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke

His sentiments were reiterated by the Council Secretary Peter Charagu who said the infighting might deny Jubilee a second term in office.

This comes after KANU leaders threatened to retract their endorsement of Uhuru in favour of the opposition’s NASA coalition, if the President failed to tame Ruto.
