Deputy President William Ruto and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have taken a swipe at the judiciary for allegedly taking sides in the politics of the country.

In strongly worded statements, the two accused the Judiciary of making decisions against the good of the country.

Ruto challenged Chief Justice Maraga to explain to the country why he directed the IEBC not to go on with the printing of ballot papers even before the courts made their ruling.

“We are asking the CJ, what does it mean when the CJ gives directions that the IEBC should not print ballot papers?” said the DP.

Ruto said politicians, the IEBC and the Judiciary must work together to ensure elections are conducted as stipulated in the constitution.

“Do not conspire with those who are not ready for elections. The IEBC must respect its Constitutional duty to hold elections as stipulated,” said the DP.

Murkomen on his part said the government has ever respected the independence of IEBC but that now it is continuously becoming clear they cannot demonstrate the strength to work against those wishing to scuttle the process.

He challenged the CJ to tell Kenyans where sis stance on the elections and if he respects the independence of judges.

“We will not allow you to use the Judiciary to sabotage the democratic rights of Kenyans,” he said.
