President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto said on Sunday the Opposition leader Raila Odinga would be vanquished during elections on October 26, and there was simply no path to shared government.
President Kenyatta and the DP said that it was not for Mr Odinga or any other individual to decide when elections would be held, and no demonstrations, or conditions would lead to a result other than elections on Oct 26.
Central Kenya leaders also urged the President to quickly sign electoral amendment laws waiting on his desk, so that there was clarity ahead of the elections, and no one would cite a lacuna in interpreting the law in future.
The Deputy President said Mr Odinga was creating crisis to get support from Kenyans to get into state house.
“We want to tell him that even if he moves from London, Paris or Washington he should forget the Governmnet of nusu mkate,” said Mr Ruto.
He said Kenyans will move on with the October 26 elections as stipulated in the Constitution, saying no amount of intimidations will stop Kenyans from participating in elections as directed by the Supreme Court.
“Mr Odinga has no choice but to follow the constitution. We are all equal before the law and we must abide by it,” said Mr Ruto.
DP Ruto said President Kenyatta won the August 8 elections by more than 1.4 million votes, and the decision of the Kenyan people would be reaffirmed in the fresh polls ordered by the Supreme Court.
“We, the Kenyan people, have to send Mr Odinga home on permanent retirement. It is your votes for Uhuru Kenyatta that will do so,” DP Ruto said.
“It is Raila that went to court to ask that the elections be repeated. It cannot be that he now does not want. Or he wants short-cuts. That no one knows whether he is in the elections or not. That is not the direction our country wishes to take.
“We are ready. Leave your conditions. Leave your demonstrations. We are all under the law. It is not an option for anyone to respect the constitution. The constitution says there must be an election supervised by the (the electoral agency) IEBC,” Ruto said.
“We will have an election on Oct 26 and you better prepare,” the DP added.
