Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has hit out at leaders who left Cord coalition for the newly formed Jubilee Party, accusing them of being greedy politicians.
Ruto, as quoted by the Star newspaper, said such leaders don’t have an independent mind to make clear decisions.
“If you are a head of a county government, how do you defect? It is the most backward way of thinking an individual could ever imagine,” Rutto said.
Governors Ukur Yattani (Marsabit) and Salim Mvurya (Kwale) have led top Cord leaders in decamping the party, and drum up support for President Kenyatta, as next year’s elections draw closer.
He further said their decisions clearly show their lack of political maturity, and went further to accuse Jubilee of poor leadership.
Rutto is one of the leaders who have fallen out with the ruling coalition, and seem to be working with KANU and his recently launched Mashinani Party.
He also said he does not need the full support of the national government to succeed as governor, since counties already have devolved funds that facilitate development.
“It is not the business of a governor to support the national government, but rather, improve services for the people who elected him,” he said.
