Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has once again reiterated her earlier statement that Deputy President William Ruto would likely become president in 2022.
During a fundraiser for Naona Mwangaza Women Group, the ODM lawmaker said Ruto was best suited to succeed his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying nobody was fit to compete with him.
The first time Jumwa declared her support for Ruto, she was criticised by a section of her colleagues in NASA coalition, with some saying her support for Ruto was at a personal level and did not symbolise ODM or NASA.
However, speaking as she led the fundraiser on Sunday, the former Kilifi woman representative toldoff critics, saying her support for Ruto was unwavering.
She said coast region must be in government come 2022, and Ruto was the man to rally behind.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho also seeks to be president.
"If the Coast region supports the government there will be more benefits. NASA leaders like Wetangula and Wiper party leaders shall not become presidents in the oncoming general elections. This time coast has to be in government and the only person who is fit to become the flag bearer is Ruto," she said.
Jumwa also cited various appointments made by Jubilee government from coast, such as Lands Chief Administrative Secretary - Gideon Mung’aro, former CS Kazungu Kambi as the Board Chairman Coast Development Authority, ex-Mining CS Dan Kazungu as the Tanzanian high Commissioner to Kenya among others.
Deputy President William Ruto was represented by Speaker Ken Lusaka and gave Sh 2 million while Jumwa gave Sh 500 ,000.Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi was represented and issued Sh 2 milion.
Also present were Nominated Senator Christine Zawadi (Jubilee Party), and Magarini Member of Parliament Michael Kingi.
