Deputy President William Ruto has for the last three days been campaigning in Coast, a region deemed an opposition stronghold.
The DP has had a busy schedule flying from Makueni in Ukambani to Taita Taveta, to Tana River, Kilifi and Kwale before landing in Mombasa.
Jubilee’s top leadership is vigorously campaigning in the region whose majority leaders do not support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
On Thursday, Ruto was in Mombasa together with Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale and a battery of Coast leaders allied to Jubilee.
Before landing in Mombasa he campaigned in Kinango and Matuga in Kwale where he said the Jubilee administration would prioritise “projects that have an impact on the lives of Kenyans.”
On the same day at Buguta and Voi in Taita Taveta, he told residents to vote for Jubilee since the government was working with county government to modernise agriculture and turn it into a lucrative business.
He also said the two governments were working together to set up milk cooling plants, bull stations that provide quality semen for artificial insemination besides focusing on agro processing, value addition and the fertiliser subsidy programme to increase market demand and double farmers’ returns.
At Kaloleni and Chonyi in Kilifi the DP said government was expanding the energy sector with the aim of transforming the country. That way, he said, “citizens, especially those at the grassroots, will enjoy development.”
On Wednesday in Magarini and Ganze in Kilifi, Ruto who is eyeing the presidency in 2022 said government would not tire in extending power through the Last Mile programme to all corners of the country. He spoke after addressing rallies in Bura, Tana River.
