Deputy President William Ruto has defended the Jubilee government over the relocation of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) games that were scheduled to be held in the nation.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on KBC TV Sunday, the DP said that the government has done enough towards ensuring that the nation hosted the event maintaining that the nation, although a bit behind time, was ready for the event.

He said that the organizers' decision to strip the nation of the hosting rights might have, to a larger extent, resulted from the oncoming presidential election repeat.

''The government has done enough in line with preparation for the games and we would have beaten the deadline. The organizers' decision to move the event to another nation is most likely because of the rising political temperatures in the nation as a result of the approaching elections,'' said Ruto.

Speaking at a time only one of the four sporting grounds set aside for the games was ready, and when a bigger chunk of the nation is blaming the Sports Ministry of sluggishness, Ruto, however, said that legal measures will be taken against any stakeholder should it be established that they failed in their job leading to the situation.

''We will take legal action against anyone who is found culpable of having contributed to this mess,'' he said.

The decision was reached by the CAF Executive Committee after a meeting in Accra Ghana Saturday.
