Deputy President William Ruto has warned county commissioners against allowing cattle rustling to take root in their areas of jurisdiction.
Addressing residents at Isoge in Borabu sub-county, Nyamira County on Friday, Ruto put all county commissioners on notice over cattle rustling.
"Our county commissioners' priority is safeguarding the security of citizens and their property. We are tired of hearing about cases of cattle rustling on this area," he said.
He made the remarks in response to appeals by local leaders on the cattle rustling menace that has stalked the region that borders Bomet County for years.
He directed the commissioners to step up their efforts to eradicate the menace, saying that the government had provided enough equipment and personnel to cover the area.
"We have bought 35 new vehicles for Bomet and 30 for Nyamira counties. 10,000 new recruits from the police department will graduate this year. We will send some of them to beef up security in this area," he said. The DP was responding to a call by Borabu MP Ben Momanyi who asked the government to beef up security in the sub-county.
