Deputy president William Ruto arrived in Ghana Friday evening, to represent president Uhuru Kenyatta at the inauguration of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo, Saturday, January 7.

He was elected president after Ghanaian president John Mahama conceded defeat following December 2016 elections.

Opposition ledaer Raila Odinga and Mombasa governor governor Ali Hassan Joho also arrived at Kotoka Airport, Accra same day for the inauguration of Nana Akufo - Addo.

Other leaders who attended the event include Zambia President, Edgar Lungu, Equatorial Guinea President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, presidents of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika; EAbdul Fattah el-Sisi (Egypt) and Sierra Leone's Ernest Bai Koroma.

Others include Ethiopian President, Mulatu Teshome, Chadian President, Idriss Déby and Liberian President, Sirleaf Ellen Johnson, according to MyJoyOnline.

"I congratulate incumbent President HE John Dramani Mahama for his adherence to democratic principles and providing leadership not just to Ghanians but to the continent at large. His gracious hand over is an example to all on the sovereignty of the will of the people,'' said Raila.
