Deputy President William Ruto has said the national government is still committed to the fight against drug trafficking at the Coast.
Addressing a rally at Caltex grounds in Likoni on Friday, Ruto said the Jubilee administration will not tolerate drug trafficking.
Responding to the maize crisis that hit the nation a few weeks ago, Ruto said they will not allow a section of leaders to push for their selfish interests including the sale of drugs in the pretense of complaining about the high cost of living.
"Hatutaki watu wasema unga kumbe ni ile unga ingine."
"We do not want to hear people complaining about unga, and it is drugs they are talking about," said Ruto, as quoted by The Star.
"The drug business does not have a place in Kenya. Those who think they can sell drugs to our youth, their days are numbered," he added.
Ruto also took a swipe at Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi accusing him of failing to account for the billions the national government has allocated the county since 2013.
He said there would be no water shortage and hunger in Kilifi had the governor utilized the money well by investing in the agriculture sector which is a devolved function.
“Kilifi County gets the fourth largest allocation of devolved funds amounting to more than Sh9 billion every year but the people cannot see what it has done,” said the DP.
