Deputy president William Ruto has laughed off at Oppositions alleged plans to legalise illicit brew if it takes power come August 8.
The National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga announced during a Nasa political rally in Bungoma, Friday, that he would lift the ban on traditional brews to allow Kenyans “enjoy their favourite drink”.
Ruto said such a move by the Nasa team would undermine the fight against alcoholism and drug abuse.
The DP noted that illicit brew had already destroyed the lives of the youth in the country and legalising it would worsen the situation.
“We already have serious problem with alcoholism and drug abuse. It will be a step in the wrong direction to legalise chang’aa and busaa,” said Ruto.
Speaking during a church service at Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Ol Kalau in Nyandarua county, Ruto called on religious institutions to support the government in its war against alcoholism and drug abuse.
“Let’s join forces in dealing with this menace. Pray for the Opposition which intends to legalise illicit brew to have a change of heart over this matter,” he added.
