Deputy President William Ruto has rubbished claims that the Jubilee government has been dishing out illegal title deeds to squatters and Kenyans at large as a political favour.
The Deputy insists that the government will continue giving out such title deeds, to ensure Kenyans own land wherever they are.
Speaking in Njukini, Taita Taveta on Tuesday afternoon during a tour of the Coast region, the deputy insisted that as a government, they cannot issue illegal documents.
“The title deeds that we’re giving you here in Njukini, those that are given out in Coast, and any other part of the country, all are issued by the government of Kenya,” said Ruto.
“There is no illegal title deed given to any Kenyan, that’s what I want you to understand. These people who are castigating such claims, we know most of them are leaders that are known, when they get to you, the will say the title deed is fake, but when they get to their backyard, they say the title deeds are okay,” he added.
This comes a few weeks after the High Court ruled that all title deeds issued to locals in Coast and some parts of the country were illegally given out, raising questions over the motive of the issuance.
Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi came out to defend the government, saying his ministry had appointed a task force that would get to the bottom of the matter.
