A NASA MP has accused Deputy President William Ruto of sabotaging the deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi faulted Ruto for focusing on the 2022 succession politics, arguing that the move is likely to affect the pact between the two political rivals.
The MP urged Ruto to stop campaigning ahead of the 2022 polls, and instead support the two leaders in their quest to unite Kenyans.
“He is already out there making promises to Kenyans even before he delivers those made last year. Ruto must stop the campaigns and focus his energy on supporting reconciliation started by President Uhuru and Mr Odinga,” said Amisi.
Amisi challenged the DP to focus on fulfilling the pre-election pledges he made to Kenyans in the run-up to the August polls.
“We need to have honest leaders to accomplish the aspirations of Kenyans. We need the country to heal first but this cannot happen under such political environment,” he added, as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.
The lawmaker further cited the various 'campaign' trips Ruto has been making following the deal between Uhuru and Raila, arguing that they are meant to woo voters ahead of the 2022 polls.
Ruto toured the Coast region over the weekend where he received a major boost after a section of leaders allied to the opposition NASA coalition endorsed his 2022 bid.
