Ruto is keen to have a strong point person from the county ahead of his 2022 presidential bid and has reportedly settled on the industrious Cabinet Secretary.

According to the source, Ruto cleverly wooed a leading Gubernatorial Aspirant to join TNA, a party that is believed to be consolidated to Jubilee Alliance Party as part of the strategy to prepare Matiang’i for the seat.

“The DP is very keen to have Matiang’i as the Nyamira governor in 2017. He has deployed a strategy of convincing a leading gubernatorial aspirant, Charles Mochama, to join TNA, a party which will be consolidated to JAP and is also scheming to have another JAP candidate Walter Nyambati elected to EALA after 2017 polls,” said the source.

“The president and his Deputy are aware of the new developments and the scheme will be announced few months to general elections. But Matiang’i will however participate in all Jubilee activities in the county including launching of JAP offices in Nyamira on June 12,” added the source.

The source also said Matiangi is a compromise candidate given his ‘acceptable' record both in the ministry of education and ICT.

“Matiangi, despite the party (JAP) that he will stand from is viewed as the appropriate candidate given his acceptable record in the ministries he has served. Mochama may not be aware of the developments but he should ask himself why they persuaded him to join TNA, a party that will be declared redundant soon,” added the source.
