Deputy President William Ruto has urged the Cord coalition to support the idea of having IEBC conduct all party primaries across the nation.
According to the DP, having IEBC conduct nominations will build trust between the opposition and the electoral body.
"I wonder how the opposition can trust IEBC to carry out the next general election if it cannot believe in the body doing nominations for the candidates seeking various seats in our respective parties," said Ruto.
Ruto who was speaking in Likoni last week said that the only reason why the opposition can be against IEBC conducting primaries is unless if it has preferred candidates for various seats.
The DP was in the coast region drumming up support for the yet to be launched Jubilee Party (JP) that was formed by merging smaller parties into one.
Ruto has been on the forefront pushing to IEBC conduct Jubilee Party's nominations in order to support credibility and transparency.
However, the proposal has met objection from the opposition which has maintained that nominations are internal party affairs but not IEBC's mandate.
The DP has in the past stated that contracting IEBC will reduce cases of foul cry among candidates who will not clinch tickets at disposal.
