With just five months to elections, the battle for Gusii votes has intensified as Jubilee government plans yet another onslaught in a region perceived to be opposition stronghold.Deputy President William Ruto is set to tour Nyamira, Kisii and Bomet counties on Friday in what has been termed as ‘consultative’ meeting with dairy farmers. The regions have been identified as tossups by Jubilee campaign strategists and President Uhuru Kenyatta is also lined up for another tour.In a circular dispatched to all administrative officers, the DP is expected to hold a series of rallies to address contemporary issues affecting locals.“This is to inform you that the Deputy President will tour Kisii, Nyamira and Bomet counties on Friday. Ensure all preparations are perfect,” read a letter from DP’s office.“We have indicated regions that will be given priority. The theme of the tour is basically dairy farming and the government’s effort to improve it,” said the letter.Interestingly, Ruto and his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta has toured the region in as many trips since 2013, a move aimed at venturing in opposition tough.Even though the government has launched a spirited campaign to claim the vote rich region, the opposition team has vowed to block all its attempts.
