In order to boost education standards in the country, the government has increased funds for Free Primary Education (FPE) programme from Sh8 billion last year to Sh14 billion this year.
Speaking at St Veronicah High School, Deputy President William Ruto has said that secondary school funds have also been increased from Sh20 billion last year to Sh28 billion this year. He added that the increased allocations will improve education standards in the country.
The DP said: “The government will pay examination fees for students in class eight and form four this year. The government is keen to make education accessible to all Kenyans and ensure tha every child is in school.”
Ruto said that the constitution guarantees right to education for every Kenyan and that nothing will stop the government from promoting education standards.
On health matters, Ruto said that the government is working closely with county governments to ensure Kenyans access quality healthcare.
He said that health is one of the government’s key priority areas and the free maternity waiver has seen many pregnant women seek medical attention.
The DP praised Nakuru residents for exercising peace and co-existing peacefully during the 2013 General elections.
Ruto said that the State will continue working with the county as it seeks to spur development and fight poverty.
