Deputy President William Ruto has formally sued human rights activist Boniface Mwangi for defamation.

Through his lawyer, Kioko Kilukumi, Ruto is seeking damages for libel following a tweet by Mwangi that linked the DP to the murder of businessman Jacob Juma.

According to Ruto the allegations are false and malicious.

The lawsuit which was filed in the High Court on Friday, wants Mwangi to delete the tweet and offer an apology through social media, newspapers and electronic media.

Ruto is also seeking the court to bar Mwangi from publishing any defamatory content against him
