Deputy President William Ruto asked opposition leaders to allow Kenyans to exercise their constitutional right of electing leaders of their choice without interference.
The Deputy President said opposition leaders should stop intimidating the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and allow the electoral body to prepare for the 2017 general election.
He told the opposition that it was better off seeking the support of Kenyans rather than engaging the electoral body in meaningless political theatrics.
Ruto said: “We must be very clear as leaders that elections are not about the leaders. Elections are about every Kenyan in Kenya today because it is their constitutional right to decide the leadership of the country.”
He added: “We must allow Kenyans to make that decision in peace without threats, intimidation and blackmail.”
The DP spoke at Mutuati Secondary School and Maili Tatu stadium and Igembe North and Central constituencies in Meru County.
Ruto urged Jubilee supporters to register as voters in large numbers to guarantee the Jubilee administration victory in the coming elections.
He said: “Everyone should register as a voter so that we can vote for a government that will serve you.”
The Deputy President called on Jubilee aspirants to seek votes peacefully and shun practices that could divide Kenyans.
The leaders said residents in Meru County were firmly behind the Jubilee administration and will not be misled by selfish individuals to support parties which had no agenda for Kenyans.
