Despite directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta barring politicians from politicking, Deputy President William Ruto says he is working for the people.
At Kenneth Matiba's funeral, a furious Uhuru fired warning shots to the DP and his allies over early campaigns which he said may sabotage service delivery.
"Let us stop moving around and campaigning for 2022. We should sit down and deliver our promises to people," said Uhuru in reference to Ruto.
So divisive have been Uhuru's remarks that even a section of Ruto's allies have asked him to declare his stand publicly.
But in Nyamira on Monday, a fire breathing Ruto insisted that moving around the country is part of his duty as enshrined in the constitution.
"I was elected by the people to work and launching water programmes, electricity, roads and hospitals like I have done today is part of my duty.
"Unless people know some other function of the principal assistant of the president. I do not need anyone's permission to move around and let that be clear," he said.
Politicians allied to President Uhuru have often faulted the DP in what they refer as 'Tanga Tanga', insisting that it could jeopardize the president's agenda.
During the visit, Ruto commissioned construction of Kemera-Amabuko road besides giving a total of Sh400 million for face-lift of Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital.
