The Deputy President William Ruto has come to the defense of Uhuru's cousin Kathleen Kihanya and Sundales International after it was alleged that she unfairly won the tender to supply the medical equipment from the government.
Sundales' tender to supply the medical equipment was unearthed after a sum of Sh5bn disappeared from Afya House and Sundale International, which received an approximate of Sh41m shillings is alleged to have received the tender due to Kathleen's close relationship with President Uhuru.
According to Citizen Digital, DP Ruto has come out to criticise the Nation newspaper for saying that Sundales International was favored for the tender.
"The Nation newspaper should stop creating allegations on people. Kathleen is a woman just like any other woman in the country and can be awarded a tender just like any woman in the country," said Ruto.
According to the newspaper, Sundales International is registered under the 'Disadvantaged Group' and this was discriminatory against those who are disadvantaged in society.
However according to Ruto, Kathleen's relationship with President Kenyatta should not be an issue due to the tender she won with Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
Sundales came into the picture when Cord co-principal Raila Odinga said that Sundales International was among the companies that swindled the Sh5bn at Afya House.
