Deputy President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to Jubilee Party politicians to stop politicking and focus on development.
Speaking at Olenguruone in Nakuru county, the DP said leaders must heed to President Uhuru Kenyatta's warning to end 2022 succession politics and concentrate on serving the electorate.
"The President has ordered that we stop politics because it is not the right time. For now, we must heed the President's call and focus on development," he said on Saturday.
Uhuru has told off politicians opposed to his unity deal with the opposition leader Raila Odinga insisting it is not pegged on the next election.
"I am surprised that when we meet with Raila and shake hands stories have started about 2022. Let us keep these politics aside as there will be 2022, 2027...and so on. Let us focus on what matters to our people," the Head of State told his critics on Thursday during Kenneth Matiba's funeral service in Murang'a.
However, some politicians allied to Ruto have vowed to continue drumming up support for the DP's presidential bid insisting they won't be cowed.
"They are saying we should not talk about 2022 because our son William Ruto is a breathe away from the top seat. We will talk about 2022 whether they like it or not," stated Nandi Senator Samson Cherargai on Friday.
