Deputy president, William Ruto, on Friday came to the rescue of Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru from angry residents of Kirinyaga.
The Deputy President had to stop his address at some point in order to calm down an irate youth who were making chants directed at Ann Waiguru.
He, therefore, had to intervene to save Waiguru from the crowd by urging them to avoid insults for the benefit of a unified nation.
"We agreed to have a unified nation not what we hear coming from Kirinyaga. We do not want to hear fracas and insults coming from this county," said DP Ruto.
Speaking in Kirinyaga where he had gone to launch the construction of two roads, the DP blamed the local leaders over in-fights for such reactions from the youths.
He, therefore, urged the leaders to avoid such in-fights and focus on delivering to the people instead.
"All Kirinyaga leaders are members of Jubilee. We should not be fighting, rather we should focus on delivering to the people what we promised them. It is time to work and not play politics," he said.
Meanwhile, he encouraged the leaders as well to hold their horses until 2022 if they are interested in playing politics.
"Wait until 2022 and the people will decide whether the current leaders will have delivered or not," urged the DP.
