Deputy President William Ruto has said that the government is clean and has nothing to hide over the Sh5.3 billion ‘Mafia House’ scandal.
Speaking on Saturday at Sibanga Primary School in Cherangany constituency, Ruto said that the leaked report of an internal audit which exposed the scam was an initiative of the very government citizens were accusing.
“The audit was not done by the Kenya audit office, or the EACC or any other person. It was done by the government itself,” he said.
The DP added that the condemnation the government was receiving over the scandal was unfair because the report itself was still an interim one with no close follow-up already done to polish and ascertain the figures.
“If we want to fight corruption, we must do so on the basis of facts and truth and not on the basis of speculation. We will not accept mob justice and condemning people unheard,” he added.
Ruto defended the Jubilee government and said they have a proven track record of combating corruption head-on, citing past scenarios where government officials had been removed from office upon being named in graft sagas.
