Bomet County Governor Isaac Ruto has hit out at the government for withdrawing the security details of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi.
Ruto termed the move as unacceptable.
"It is unacceptable what the government has done to deny Joho and Kingi their security detail. This is the most unfortunate way to try and contain the two governors," he said.
Ruto attributed the plight of the two Coast governors to the ill advice the Jubilee leadership has been receiving from their advisers.
He warned the government against using such antiques to tame the duo for publicly criticising President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying such moves have no room in mature democracy.
"This is a result of channeled communication to those in leadership by their advisors to try and punish Joho and Kingi for rightfully criticising the Jubilee administration. It is absolutely wrong to use the instrument of power in an illegal way,” said Ruto.
"This is something that should be unheard of in a mature democracy like the one we have in Kenya," he added.
He said it is the right of the governors to enjoy security from the government.
The two governors later rejected their security detail after they were reinstated by the government.
