[Photo/Silas Tiren]Moiben MP Silas Tiren has issued another statement, revealing that government had imported brown sugar and was planning to import maize and powder milk.In an earlier statement on January 15, Tiren vowed to remain firm following his election as the chairman of the National Assembly's Livestock and Agriculture committee.Tiren issued a statement following calls by Deputy President William Ruto that he, alongside other two Jubilee elected committee chairpersons should abandon the positions.Tiren said he intends to attend a retreat next week in Mombasa as the chair of the committee as stipulated in the standing orders and after clarification by the clerk of the National assembly. The Jubilee lawmaker who has been championing for farmers grievances in the North Rift Region warned that he cannot be a pushover since his background in Agriculture and the passion he has in the sector will enable him deliver inline with Jubilee government's big four plan.On Saturday, the angry Jubilee lawmaker who is a close ally to Ruto said:"I was elected the chair livestock and agriculture committee same day as my vice chair, no complain has been brought forward against him, members allegedly were not of sound mind when electing me contrary to when electing the vice chair. The basis of taking a vote of no confidence against me is utterly unfounded, we haven't had any committee meeting since I was elected and I have only issued an acceptance speech, the standing orders clearly outlines grounds that may occasion a vote of non confidence against a chair. The committee is now rocked with leadership wrangles instead of embarking on tackling the issues that are now emerging, the state is set to import maize, brown sugar has already been imported and the importation of powder milk that will negatively affect the farmers, this are the issues we could be handling as a committee.Kenyans will judge us harshly if the executive is left to muzzle parliament and allowed to determine the leadership of committees, in the long run this will not provide the oversight which will be in the interest of Kenyans. My election victory has elicited a lot of reactions and I thank those who are strongly behind my resolve for parliamentary democracy and the rule of law."
