Delegates at the Kanu party are today (Tuesday) expected to hold a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Reports indicate the meeting aims to endorse president Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid, despite earlier announcement that it would join no coalition, but rather, field a presidential candidate in the August 8, polls

The Baringo senator Gideon Moi-led party was supposed to hold the meeting Monday, but it was postponed due to undisclosed reasons.

It is believed Kanu's decision follows recent Uhuru's visit, to former president Daniel arap Moi (Gideon's father), reportedly asking him to plead his son, to support his re-election.

The Opposition Nasa, and Uhuru's Jubilee party, have been rallying behind Kanu, asking it to support them.

Gideon is seen as a political 'heavyweight' from the larger Rift Valley region, which Jubilee could enjoy.

It is however believed that Kanu's support for Uhuru will compromise Deputy President William Ruto's political ambitions.

Gideon's support for Uhuru is similar to Ruto's support for Uhuru, since he (Ruto) also hails from the Rift Valley.

The two politicians have not been in good terms, politically.

Today's meeting will be held at the party headquarters.
