Succession politics has become a norm in the Kenyan political arena. The 2017 general election has faded away from the memories of Kenyans and 2022 general election is slowly starting to form in our minds.
Key among the 2022 politics is the presidency. Many could be eyeing the top seat in the republic but one individual who has made it clear that he must be on that race is the current deputy president William Ruto.
Though it is still too early for him to openly name his running mate, here are individuals who most probably will deputize him in the race to state house.
1. Musalia Mudavadi
The ANC party leader and NASA co-principal is an intelligent, dedicated, approachable and noble person who has a huge following from western kenya and can easily be picked by the deputy president to be his running mate.
2. Alfred Mutua
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and current Machakos governor has tried time and again to avoid being directly associated with either Jubilee party or NASA. He commands a considerable Ukambani votes and can deputize Ruto in 2022 though he has previously indicated that he will be going for the precidency.
3. Aden Duale
The Garissa Township member of parliament and house majority leader has served with due diligence building a good national following and it is possible for the deputy president to choose him as his running mate.
4. Fred Matiang'i
The Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary has proved his enormous ability to serve with unwavering loyalty. His reforms in education sector has won him a national honour, support and is definitely a good candidate for Ruto's running mate.
5. Ferdinand Waititu Babayao
The Kiambu governor commands a large central Kenya block and being the most famous leader from Mount Kenya region, he would not escape the notice of the deputy president for the running mate position.
