Deputy President William Ruto has requested county leaderships to aid the national government in modernizing the nation.

In a tweet on Friday, the Deputy President called upon Governors to spearhead urbanization in rural regions under their jurisdictions, advising them to improve economic activities in these areas by improving infrastructure.

This, he said, will not only aid both governments in tapping in more revenue from business establishments, but will also improve access to important facilities like markets, and education and health institutions.

He observed that the same will also simplify transport of of goods and people to their desired destinations, further improving the economy.

''We are engaging county governments to turn rural areas into thriving economic hubs through infrastructure development'' he said.

''New roads will create business opportunities, improve access to markets, schools and hospitals, ease movement of people, goods and promote local industry,'' the DP added.

Ruto spoke after commissioning the construction of the Jomvu Kuu-Rabai Road at Jomvu Kuu in Mombasa county.

He was flanged by area leaders including Kwale county chief Salim Mvurya and Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.

Also present was Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, Khatib Mwashetani of LungaLunga and Starehe lawmaker Charles Njagua Kanyi.
