Politicians in Kisumu have reacted angrily at the conduct of Deputy President William Ruto’s pilot who was captured on video assaulting a female police officer in Nyandarua over the weekend.
There was an altercation between a the pilot, Allister Brown, who was hired to take Ruto to Ndunyu Njeru in Nyandarua County on Sunday and a female police officer with the pilot hurling insults at the officer for 'not doing her job' of keeping members of the public away from the chopper.
The video that is doing rounds on social media has elicited sharp reactions from angry Kenyans.
The leaders comprising aspirants and MCAs expressed their anger at how violence against women had escalated.
Kisumu Central parliamentary aspirant Richard Ogendo said the law was being put to test and that the pilot might just get away with the heinous act.
“The DP’s pilot harasses a police officer but who can dare touch the high and mighty when there is lots of Kenya ‘links’ to frustrate,” said Ogendo.
Nominated MCA Farida Salim said the act bordered on gender based violence.
“How can he use insulting words against the female officer and he even dares to shove her so hard. If he did that to a male police officer, it could have been differently handled,” said Mrs Salim.
She said the pilot should not be left scot free but instead should be arrested and charged accordingly if in deed the Kenyan security agencies were serious about protecting the dignity of its officers.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has ordered for the arrest of the pilot.
