President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession is now taking shape with numerous political 'handshakes'. Since the start of this year, different political camps have been seen making political alignments.
Former head of state Daniel Moi will be a factor that is considered to shape up 2022 presidential contest. This comes after the entry of his son, Baringo senator Gideon Moi to succeed President Kenyatta. Kenyatta will also be faced with a tough choice considering that the two; Moi and Ruto, shaped his political career.
Gideon Moi will enjoy huge support from both Central Kenya and Rift Valley. This is because some people aren't comfortable with Ruto's presidency.
Former Prime Raila Odinga is among the political giants who have met the former head of state. The recent move by former premier is seen to block Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions. The Moi factor will definately play out during 2022 presidential elections hence early preparations.
Central Kenya leaders have not also been left out in this. Two Jubilee politicians from the Mt Kenya region clashed over the region’s backing Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 bid for State House.
Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria differed with his Nyeri Town counterpart Ngunjiri Wambugu's comments suggesting that Ruto was not guaranteed to get the region's backing in 2022.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo also met Raila Odinga last week. If we can recall very well, Kabogo publicly denounced Ruto's presidency.
He has also been vocal in calling for mediation between Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta amid of political crisis after 2017 general elections. His sentiments were received with criticism from Ruto's loyalties especially from Central Kenya.
This clearly shows that Ruto's Presidency will be an uphill task considering that President Kenyatta's backyard isn't comfortable with Ruto's Presidency. Nyeri Town's Ngunjiri Wambugu and Martha Karua are among leaders who have publicly slammed the 'political debt' debate.
Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru has also met Baringo Gideon Moi after Dp Ruto's visit in her county. Their ‘handshake’ is poised to stir up Kenyan politics as politicians set their sights on the 2022 elections.
Another factor that may play out in 2022 Presidential polls is the Ruto's fall out with the immediate former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and his Marakwet East counterpart Kangogo Bowen.
The two have blamed the Jubilee leadership for their predicament. The political woes of the two started after they were removed from house committees.Their fallout will immensely benefit Gideon Moi.
