United Republic Party which was dissolved in September last year will be replaced by Chama Cha Mashinani, claims Governor Isaac Rutto.
Deputy President William Ruto folded the party, which was predominant in Rift Valley region and subsequently merged it with Jubilee Party.
And on Sunday, Rutto said areas that were dominated by URP will be ‘successfully’ inherited by CCM, a party which he formed after falling out with Jubilee leadership.
“There is nothing to panic because CCM has taken control in Rift Valley. We formed URP but someone hijacked it for his selfish interest. We now have its replacement,” he told KTN news.
Rutto added: “In coming weeks, people are going to see mass defection from Jubilee to CCM. I do not want to preempt but it will be a nice scenario.”
The Bomet County chief has been in a major tussle with DP Ruto whom he accuses of dictatorship and has vowed to support a ‘devolution friendly’ candidate for president.
Last week, he hosted a couple of opposition leaders in his backyard even though, he did not offer them a direct support.
