The outspoken governor was allegedly hit with teargas canisters on his face by the police during a demonstration two weeks ago.

Speaking on Sunday during his homecoming ceremony, the Chama Cha Mashinani Party leader said he will however visit local hospitals before the scheduled checkup.

“I cannot be able to see properly but I thank God the injury was not that severe. The only thing I cannot do properly is perhaps blowing my nose,” he said.

“I will be returning to South Africa for further checkup mid-December but for now I will be visiting local hospitals for maintenance,” he added.

He accused Jubilee government of targeting innocent people and vowed to fight for the rights of the ordinary people.
