Police in Nakuru were forced to lob tear gas canisters to Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology students who had blocked Eldoret-Nakuru highway over the transfer of their principal Samuel Cheruiyot.
Transport along the highway was paralyzed before the officers, in three vehicles, shot in the air as the students fled into their farm bordering the highway.
Speaking at the college, the students accused the Ministry of Education of having a plot to transfer the principal.
The new revelation might be an iceberg of protracted wars between the Ministry of Education and the institution's board of management whose patron is Retired President Daniel Moi and now Senator Gideon Moi
The source further revealed that despite several letters they had written to the Ministry of Education that they had confidence in the leadership of Cheruiyot, the Ministry had made transfers on the principal who was hardly six months in office.
Efforts to contact the RVIST board of trustees chairman Julius Sunkuli and the principal to confirm the behind the scenes infighting failed as their phones went unanswered.
