Kennedy Kilolo, however, denied the charges before chief magistrate Esther Maina for both offences.

The prosecution told the court that the accused was arrested on May 27 this year in Kisumu selling beads and necklaces in a restricted area, where he failed to produce a permit for conducting the business.

Upon further interrogation, Kilolo failed to produce his national identity card, revealing to the police that he was a Rwandese national and did not have relevant documents from the immigration department, the court heard.

In his defence, Kilolo told the court that he was stranded in Kisumu and he was trying to raise some money to facilitate his return ticket to his home country as he had lost all his belongings through robbery.

He is expected to report to the court in the next seven days to know his fate.

The magistrate released him on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing next week on Friday.

Maina ordered Kilolo to visit the immigration office and get relevant documents in the meantime. She also ordered him to be reporting at the Kisumu central station every day until the case is determined.
