“Life comes first and if anybody should abandon their duty for whatever reason and life is lost, it should not be taken lightly,” she said.

Speaking at elders meeting in Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga in Murang'a, Ms Chege maintains that the nurses took an oath to after the needs of patients and that matters of health of a nation should always overshadow any personal interest.

“Issues of health are more important than anything else. It is wrong for anyone to walk out of a hospital and abandon patients who need urgent medical attention,” she said.

The Murang’a women rep said that in her re- election bid, she will rally her colleagues and introduce legislation to ban strikes by health workers.

At the moment only patients who can afford treatment at private hospitals or have National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cards are seeking medical services there.

She is calling upon the government to gunner all resources in order to put the nurse’s strike to rest.

“My plea is for the government to address the nurses’ grievances so that they resume work. We are really suffering,” she said.

Just recently the nation witnessed the doctor’s strike that went on for more than 2 months.
