Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege has proposed the public execution of persons found guilty of looting public resources.
Chege argued that the move will help in curbing corruption cases which have become rampant in the country. The lawmaker made the remarks at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a town during a walk to raise funds for the Kenya Red Cross Murang’a chapter."I am proposing once people are convicted by our courts of corruption, they are taken before a firing squad at Uhuru Park and are shot dead in the full glare of the public. It has happened in China and we can as well embrace it here in Kenya," said Chege. The vocal Jubilee leader has further pledged to bring a motion in parliament that will seek to authorise the death penalty for corrupt individuals in the country. She further defended the government against the corruption claims, arguing that the few individuals who are squandering public resources are doing so to taint the name of the government. "We cannot be jumping from one corruption case to another. In the last one week, we started with corruption allegations at the National Youth Service and we came to the National Cereals and Produce Board that was immediately followed by corruption at the Kenya Power. This is unacceptable," she said. The lawmaker urged the investigating authorities to speed up their probe and bring to book those who were adversely mentioned in the NYS and NCBP scandals.
