The communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has fined the three leading telephone communications giants sh311 million for failing to meet Quality of Service (QoS) standards during the financial year 2016/2017.Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom failed to achieve 80% compliance which is the minimum required threshold according to the QoS report.The 2016/2017 report recorded that Airtel and Telkom having 75% compliance to QoS while Safaricom sored 62.5%. The industry average being 70% which is however an improvement from the preceding year's report (2015/2016) which was 62.5%.The firms were fined 0.15% of the the profits for the financial year that ended 30 June 2017. The amount totalled to sh 311 m from the firms equivalent profits after tax. Safaricom will contribute the highest of the portion, followed by Airtel while Telkom closing with the least.The QoS standards are expressed in terms of a select set of Parameters/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which were used to rate the firms. A complaint operate will attain a score of 80 per cent.
