Safaricom CEO is not sacked says Safaricom Foundation Chairman

Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu has refuted claims that Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore has been sacked.

He said he is still the CEO only that he has been unwell and has gone for special treatment abroad.

“I want to confirm that Bob Collymore is in London for specialized medical treatment for a couple of months after which he will come back and he is still the CEO,” he said in Eldoret town, Friday.

“We are not sure the exact time when he will come back but it will depend on the doctors. The Company is in safe hands while he will be alone,” he added.

He, however, wished him quick recovery for him to resume his duties as soon as possible.

Ogutu said the Safaricom Foundation had officially launched two refurbished maternity wings at West Maternity hospital in Eldoret town at a cost of sh 1.7 million thus restoring the two wings.

“We will partner with Kenyans, organizations, and institutions to improve and transform people’s lives. From 2003 we have implemented over 1,000 community projects, impacting over 3 million people across the country,” he said.
