On Monday night, Safaricom was feted the African telcom operator of 2017 during the CommsMEA Awards ceremony which took place in Dubai.
The telco managed to secure the award ahead of Maroc Telecom, Vodacom and Airtel Africa.
The annual award ceremony aims at highlighting telecommunications throughout the Middle East and Africa while also acknowledging new trends and innovation in the communications sector.
Several CEO's were present during the prestigious event which was held at the Grosvenor House in Dubai.
Safaricom emerged as the best performing company in East and Central Africa.
The company has gained great recognition over the years for the innovations and the growth of their mobile money platform MPESA which has more than 26 million users.
According to reports, the company has transacted more than Sh184 billion through the use of the mobile money platform.
Many are eager to see what the telco will come up next and expectations for the company continue to grow.
