Safaricom is set to refund 424,011 people who were billed Ksh 25 to check KCPE results but feedback not delivered to them.

The company has announced to pay 10 million shillings to Kenyans who requested KCPE results through short message service but were never responded to due to technical faults.

The company through a letter to the public said it had taken the move after many complaints from customers.

Safaricom however claims that the short code 22252 is run by a third party named Chalia Telecommunication limited which are licensed by Communication Authority and were hired by Kenya National Examination Council.

“We have initiated an investigation to ensure that customers used the service well and were not overcharged,” said Safaricom Director of Strategy, Joe Ogutu.

The company announced that a total of 424 011 customers were affected by the service.

On Tuesday many Kenyans expressed their frustrations through social media platforms over the hitch.
