Raging floods continue to wreak havoc and kill people in different areas, with the Kenya Redcross reporting that over 20 people have so far died as a result of the raging floods in the last two weeks.

Some of these deaths could have been avoided if only simple safety precautions were observed. 

According to Kenya Redcross,e there are certain measures that you can put in place to help you from any harm of flood water. 

These measures include;

1. Moving to elevated places immediately you notice rising flood waters.

2. Always remember that only six inches of moving water can knock you down increasing your risk of drwonign or being hurt by debris

3. One foot of moving water can sweep off your vehicle 

4. Do not step into pools of water to know how deep the water runs, instead use a stick if you have to

5. Floods increase the risk of electrocution, so switch off power from the main switch

6. Always avoid walking or driving through flood waters

7. Avoid parking along streams or rivers around or next to rivers

8. Sheltering under a tree increase chances of injuries from falling branches and even lightening

9. Do not drive over flooded bridges
