Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has been asked by Safina Party to reconsider his early retirement move and continue reforming the Judiciary.
The party's officials said the Judiciary was moving towards the right direction under the leadership of Dr Mutunga and hence his departure would leave a big void in the Judiciary
Led by the party's Secretary General John Wamagata and Kisumu county coordinator Samson Onditi, they said the country still needs the services of Mr Mutunga in the endeavours to realise reforms in the Judiciary.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Mr Wamagata said the retirement of the CJ will be a big blow to the judiciary system.
“We feel that Mutunga should stay on and extend his term as the CJ and the president of the Supreme Court because his early retirement will be a big blow to the already reforming system,” he said.
He said the Supreme Court would be left with the ongoing crisis if Mutunga resigns hence this was the time his services were greatly needed in the country.
“We are appealing to him to rethink over the retirement plans,” he said adding that there was no doubt in his contribution in the corridors of justice.
The party officials also called for reforms in the Independence Boundaries and Electoral commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2017 general Elections.
