Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja has said that he bowed out of the Nairobi gubernatorial race after wide consultations with friends and supporters.
Speaking on Thursday after submitting his nominations papers for the senatorial seat, the legislator added that he had decided to sacrifice his governorship ambitions for the sake of Jubilee Party's unity.
"I have sacrificed so as to unite Jubilee in Nairobi. Moving as a divided team would be a sure route to loss," the Star quoted him.
"I am leading by example.. it had too many people. Let me try my luck in the senate," he added.
He is set to vie for the Nairobi Senatorial seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The City's top seat had seen Jubilee leaders split into two factions; one led by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and another by 2013 presidential candidate Peter Kenneth.
Team Sonko included: Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.
Team Kenneth included: Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.
Sakaja affirmed his support for whoever will clinch the Jubilee Party ticket.
